Did You Know?
Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents on our roads today. According to the NSC, nearly 400,000 people are injured annually in crashes involving a distracted driver. Distractions can come in many forms, including texting, talking on the phone, adjusting the radio, or even interacting with passengers. These actions can take your focus off the road for just a few seconds, leading to severe consequences.
Simple Steps to Avoid Distracted Driving
Put Aside Your Phone: To eliminate the urge to check your phone while driving, keep it out of reach. Activate the "Do Not Disturb" feature to minimize notifications.
Prepare Directions in Advance: If you're relying on a navigation system, input your destination before you start driving. This will help you concentrate on the road rather than your device.
Limit Your Passengers: A vehicle full of passengers can lead to many distractions. If you're traveling with others, ask them to speak quietly to each other and remind them you need to concentrate on the road.
Skip Food and Drinks: While it may seem convenient to eat or drink while driving, these actions divert your attention. It's best to consume food and beverages before hitting the road.
Take Breaks When Needed: If you start to feel fatigued, pull over safely and take a moment to rest. Even a momentarily lapse in attention can have catastrophic consequences.
